Virginia Beach Student Brings Smiles to Children and Troops This Halloween

An amazing young student in Virginia Beach found a way to bring smiles to her fellow classmates and U.S. troops through a Halloween candy collection this year.

Lauren Fenty, age nine, lost her father in Afghanistan when she was only 28 days old. Inspired by his memory, Lauren went in search of a way to support the troops this Halloween season and organized a successful school-wide candy collection at John B. Dey Elementary School, securing more than 770 pounds of candy.

Having initially contacted another local dental office that was offering money in exchange for Halloween candy, Lauren decided to donate any money she received to Operation Smile, an international medical charity that provides medical care, training and education for cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities.

However, the collection effort by John B. Dey students was so successful that the cascade of candy was more than the dental office could handle! That’s when Lauren discovered the Virginia Beach Kool Smiles dental office and Operation Troop Treats.

Our Kool Smiles team sent the candy collected by Lauren and her classmates to Operation Gratitude, along with dental kits for the troops. We also gave Lauren and her fellow students a check for $500 to donate to the local Operation Smile chapter.

We’re thrilled to work with such a humble and generous young girl who has gone above and beyond to make smiles brighter for kids throughout the world and troops stationed abroad.
